Hi fabulous people!
The last Diary entry for this book was mid-December, so it is high time I posted another one, being as we are on the cusp of submission.
First, where was I in December? I was mid revisions following beta reader feedback and I’d set myself this rough timeline of projects for the three months between then and now:
Get Ghosts copyedited by Feb.
Get edits back on Birds and revise whilst awaiting Ghosts copyedits.
Do publicity for The Last To Drown release in mid February.
Maybe possibly start the structural edit of Ghosts' kind of not-sequel.
So how has it gone?
Ghosts is copyedited, proofread and soon to be on its way to production!
I did finish Birds beta edits, got agent edits scarily fast, and finished those too!
The Last To Drown is out! It was a low key release but the book has been very well received so I’m content.
Omg, I even managed this last one! The Salt Oracle has just come back from my agent with amazing edits - it’s due with my editor in June.
As I talked about in my post on reading slumps, I’m feeling a little frazzled by the last few months of hopping rapid-fire between edit passes of three very different books and am currently giving myself a wee break from anything edit-shaped to try to reboot the brain.
But in this wee break, we’re at a Big Moment in Birds’ journey, in that we are preparing to go out on submission in the next couple of weeks.
For those who aren’t familiar with the term, ‘going on sub’ means your agent is sending your book out to editors for their consideration. Aside from having your book in a state you’re both happy with, preparing for sub involves a few other things, and I figured I’d talk a wee bit about this prep in case it’s of interest.
So aside from a shiny and marvellous book, what else do you need?
